Roll'd to Pho

Being Friday, I was in the mood for Pho. So after drinks I met up with my sister for some Vietnamese and we ended up in Roll’d in order to satisfy our Pho craving.

Our Chilli Prawns were delicious and smoky while the chilli wasn’t too overpowering. The Sweet Potato was a good addition to my Tiger beer.

 

My Pho was fresh and looked colourful which made it a pleasure to eat. My sister’s Goi was as nice as it looked.

The staff were friendly and the décor was cool. I’m glad that there are a few Roll’d so I won’t have to go far for a bowl of pho.

An average royal

We’re lucky in Perth, we have the best beaches and the best views on the face of the planet. Even if we’re not loitering on the beachfront, we can find ourselves admiring a gorgeous view because everything is so pretty, new and clean.

Everything is so damn pristine!  

This causes problems (#firstworldproblems) for foodies because we flock to joints where the view is good only to find that the food is average.

Perth’s pristine environment is being taken advantage of.  

This is what we found when we visited the Royal recently. It is not to say that the food was bad but the proprietors thought that they didn’t have to try that hard with the food because their water front location would be enough.

It is a shame really but I have to say their Ginger Beer was fantastic.

Gees, I like this place!

I love Asian food including dumplings, soup, rice dishes, noodles and curries. You name it, I love it.

Having said that, when I tried to have Yum Cha or the like but I’ve found it always a little too noisy and hectic, in the true sense of the word.

I always had this irrational fear about being run down by a person with a trolley!

But not at BamBamBoo.

It was like an Asian fast food version of your local Chinese but better. Much better!

Everything was as high tech as you’d expect but no chaos or trollies. The décor was new and just cool really.  

You start off ordering your food off an IPad then either paying for it with your credit card or using cash at the counter.

My HarGao dumplings and BBQ Pork with rice weren’t bad at all.

 

Just another summer in WA

Grey skies and feeling slightly cold around this time of year suggests that summer might well be over.

Summer in Perth sees super hot days and balmy nights. The perfect setting allows us to enjoy the myriad of opportunities available to kick back and have a good time. That’s what it is about, right?

While this summer seemed slightly less savaged temp wise, there was still plenty to keep us entertained. There were outdoor movies at Somerville, nights out at the Fringe Festival, and a weekend at the Perth Writers’ Festival that overlapped with the UWA orientation.

My highlights were the Vietnamese circus as well as Chamber Music at Perth International Arts Festival which were both amazing.

Visits to the beach were regular with the last one coincided with Sculptures by the Sea at Cottesloe Beach.  

Now the weather has cooled now a bit and I’ve donned a jumper, my friends and I look for things to do that are inside but that’s ok as there is always plenty to do.
